Yes, I Do Use My eReader!

I was recently asked if I really used my Nook Color enough to justify the expense. In one word, YES! Right now I’ve got 58 books stored to it and dozens of business PDF papers. When I’m home I read (I’m one of those strange people who disconnected their TV because I got sick and tired of the advertisements and slanted news covereage). In lieu of television, I can use my Nook to go to the internet and watch Hulu and YouTube if I wish.

At work I use my Nook to keep my Things-To-Do list up to date and check emails. I can stop by a McDonalds or Starbucks if I need a Wi-Fi Hotspot. My Nook is also a great MP3 player when I’m in the office. I can check local news and weather forecasts as well. Oh, I can also read a book during my break!

Do I consider all these things worth $249.00? Absolutely!

Download a Free Justin Bieber eBook!

I ran across an unofficial Justin Bieber Fansite while searching for something to blog about. The fan’s name is “Jen E., The Backstage Girl.” For a limited time she’s giving away a free 55 page ebook she wrote herself!

I’m not a Bieber fan, but I’ve got a teenage daughter in high school and I know how popular he is. I’m not endorsing this free ebook, but it looks like fun so I’m passing the word.

Rather than trying to paraphrase what’s on her website, I’ll give you the link so you can see it for yourself! Just click here and away you go!

Another Look At Calibre!

I’ve written about Calibre in the past, but to be honest, I kind of ignored it since my review. Last night I found mention of it on another website and I decided to take another look! All I can say is, “Wow! They’ve evolved!”

One of the coolest things it does is convert almost any ebook into the format that’s compatible with yours! The only exception seems to be those ebooks that are DRM protected.

You can also search for an ebook and it will find all available sources that sell it, inform you if it’s DRM protected, and provide the prices allowing you to choose the least expensive! That saves you money!

Calibre also does what it was first designed to do. It manages your ebook collection.

They call themselves the one stop solution to all your ebooks needs. You can watch a demo and download your free copy of Calibre by clicking here. I think you’ll like it!

Petition Circulating against HarperCollins

I’ve written several articles about HarperCollins and their policy concerning ebooks they sell to libraries. After one of their books has been loaned out 26 times, it self destructs and the library must buy another copy if they wish to continue making it available.

I believe a library acquires ownership rights when they purchase an ebook from a publisher. I believe the library, which becomes the legal owner of any ebook they purchase, should be the one to determine how that ebook is disposed of, not the publisher they purchased it from! And like a paper book, I believe a library should be able to sell their ebooks just like they sell their paper books when they become obsolete.

Here in Florida many of our libraries have been forced to reduce their staff and operating hours because of budget cuts. The decision by HarperCollins to make libraries pay more for their ebooks when they are suffering from such budget cuts is predatory and disgraceful!

There is an online petition circulating that has garnered over 63,000 signatures. I’ve already added my name to it. If you believe as I do, you can add your name to the petition by clicking here.
