Finding A Job

I know the job market is tough right now. I hear people say they’ve been out of work for a year or more and they can’t find a job. Recently a guy told me, “I’m a truck driver, but nobody is hiring truck drivers right now.” I’m an older guy, but in my life I’ve never been unemployed for more than a day or two. I was just hired for a new job today (I’m going to be a Property Manager). I usually have two or three jobs at the same time. Here’s my secret… I’ll take any job available whenever I need work. If I can’t find a job, I’ll make one (more on that in a moment).

I’ve been (in alphabetical order) a AAA DIP Instructor, Awning Installer, Bar Bouncer, Boat Captain, Body Guard, Busboy, Carpenter, CEO, Commercial Maintenance Man, Commodities Broker, Construction Worker, CPR Instructor, Deputy Sheriff, Dry Wall Installer, Electronic Repair Technician, First Aid Instructor, General Partner, Hurricane Shutter Production Manager, Lawn Maintenance Person, Marine Patrol Officer, Newspaper Boy, Painter, Pet Store Clerk, Policeman, Porter, Pressure Washer, Process Server, Radio Talk Show Host, Radioman Chief Petty Officer, Real Estate Salesman, Roofer, Sailing Instructor, Scuba Instructor, Security Officer, Sole Proprietor, and MOST IMPORTANT… Husband and Daddy! I’m a Gemini… I love making money, and I like to try new things! Oh, did I mention I’m a blogger? (wink!)

If you can’t find a job, make one! Be observant to what’s going on around you… Listen to what people are complaining about… If you can fix complaints, you’ve got a job! Everybody hates potholes… Fixing them is easy (and VERY profitable!). Any dirty windows around you? I charge $3.00 to clean one side of a window or $5.00 for both sides. That doesn’t sound like much, but I can do a plate glass window in under three minutes… Earning a dollar a minute is pretty good! Is there a shopping center or mall around you that has lots of trash and graffiti? I charge $35.00 an hour to pick up trash and paint out graffiti… Are there any dirty sidewalks in the shopping centers? Pressure washing is a great way to earn money… I usually charge six cents a square foot for pressure washing. Starting a Process Serving business is usually pretty easy… Attorneys love good process servers! Check out how to become a substitute teacher with your local Department of Education… The pay isn’t that hot, but if you need money it’s great! Live near a college or university? Typing up term papers can earn you some good cash… Can you play a musical instrument? Try teaching others to play! You can shovel snow in a local senior’s community (or anywhere else!)… Mow lawns, trim hedges, clean rain gutters, wash cars, clean swimming pools, assemble toys and furniture, babysit, help kids with homework and science fair projects, make party favors or bake cupcakes. The work is out there… You just have to find it!

Life Rocks!
