Google Buys Motorola!

Google is set to purchase Motorola Mobility (the cellphone manufacturing branch of the Motorola empire) for 12.5 billion dollars. The boards of both companies unanimously approved the merger and the deal should be completed by early 2012.

This move gives Google complete control over its Android OS and the hardware that will run it! Google will also have the capability to challenge the Apple iPad with the Motorola Xoom.

So what does this all mean to eBooks? Well, Google also has one of the largest eBook inventories in the world! Their goal is to digitize every book ever printed. Google has the ebooks, and now they have the ability to manufacture and market the equipment to read them! The impact on the ebook industry is huge!

It will be interesting to watch this develop. I see technology coming down the road that we haven’t dreamed of! Hang on… It’s going to be a wild ride!
