Hello everyone! Wow! Amazon outdid themselves this time! I’m not even going to try to give you all the features of this amazing tablet! Just “click here” to see everything for yourself!
Wait! It gets better… The Kindle Fire has an ultra-fast web browser called Amazon Silk. To learn more about this browser, just “click here.”
The best part! It only costs $199.00 and they will start shipping November 15th, just in time for Christmas… I have to go now… I need to write a letter to Santa!
Amazon just announced they’ve signed a deal with Fox to add more movies and TV programs to their instant streaming service. With deals already cut with CBS, NBC-Universal, Sony, and Warner Bros, Amazon will be able to offer more than 11,000 movies and TV shows for only $79.00 a year.
So why am I talking about this on eBook Chronicles? Well, on Wednesday Amazon is expected to announce their latest product… The Kindle Tablet… It is believed the Kindle Tablet will be an Android-based unit with a 7-inch touchscreen and will sell for $250 or less. Some believe that owners of this new device may be offered library privileges to books carried by Amazon as part of the $79.00 a year package we just talked about.
If you would like to read more, please visit the ExtremeTech website by “clicking here.” To see the Amazon article, just go to amazon.com and there it is! Hurry though… Right now it’s on their home page, but I doubt they’ll leave it there long.
As reported in AllThingsD, Apple is going to hold their next big media event on Tuesday, October 4th, 2011. The event will be hosted by Apple’s new CEO, Tim Cook. Sources close to AllThingsD said Apple will probably offer the new iPhone to the public a few weeks after the announcement.
This will be the first time we will see Tim Cook in his new roll as CEO and I’m looking forward to it. I’ve always liked Apple and their products (I fondly remember my old Macintosh 128… I used that machine for years!).
If you would like to know more, and I know you do, please “click here” and go there!
Starting today, everyone can join Google+. I just joined about an hour ago and I like it! It’s different, but fun! All you have to do to get there is enter “plus.google.com” into your browser and off you go! The sign-up process is fast and painless.
Please, check it out and let me know what you think! Let’s have fun now!
A multinational company called Plastic Logic, headquartered in Mountain View, California, invented a revolutionary new flexible plastic display screen. These screens are extremely rugged, shatterproof, and glare free (unlike LED glass screens).
In April, 2009, they marketed an eReader called the Que proReader. This eReader featured a 10.7-inch “shatterproof” monochrome screen with a resolution of 1264 x 964 pixels. In August, 2010, they stopped production and withdrew it from the market because they couldn’t compete with the flood of inexpensive eReaders like the $139 Kindle.
Plastic Logic went back to the drawing boards to develop a 2nd generation product that would be more competitive in the marketplace. Here’s where it gets interesting… I’m quoting from an article I read from windowsfordevices.com, “…in January Plastic Logic received a $700 million investment from RUSNANO (the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies), after announcing that it planned to build “the worlds largest volume production factory for next-generation plastic displays” in Zelenograd, Russia (near Moscow).”
They are going to market a new product called the Plastic Logic 100 for Russian schoolchildren in grades 6 and 7. This eReader will come preloaded with over 40 textbooks and have some great features as well!

We’ve blogged about Nooks, Kindles, and Kobos, and while they’re all great products, what if you just want to read a book on your computer? It’s true you can download apps from Amazon and Barnes & Noble that will allow you to do this, but I found another program that works great and has some amazing features!
I invite you to check out MartView, a digital reader that allows you to “Read on a computer like never before. Flip, slide, scroll, pinch, circle and more!” I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I really enjoy it. I have a growing collection of books in PDF format. Reading them with Adobe Reader is okay, but MartView really brings a PDF to life!
MartView also offers a library of free books and magazines you can download and read at your leisure. The colors are crisp and clear. This absolutely free program is also enabled for touch screen monitors.
A unique feature of MartView is it will allow you to convert your pictures into an attractive photo album and publish them on the web! I really like this feature!
You can learn more or download MartView by “clicking here.” Have fun!
Some people need help with a single subject. Other people can’t afford college, but want or need the knowledge and skills that come with a higher education. Still others might need help with the most basic of life’s skills. Regardless of what your needs are, Khan Academy can probably help.
Khan Academy has thousands of videos and lectures prerecorded on such diverse subjects as finance, algebra, basic arithmetic, history, biology, computer science, and much more. The best part is you can join the academy for free and study at your own speed. I’m currently reviewing algebra so I can help my daughter with her homework.
Khan Academy is turning education upside down! Teachers are having their students watch video presentations from the academy at home and then having them do their homework in class! Teachers can actually move around in class and teach instead of standing in front of the classroom giving lectures until the bell rings.
They’re also an incredible resource for home schoolers. Khan Academy leads you through their subjects step by step (and even rewards you with merit badges and points for your educational achievements!). Khan Academy also keeps track of your progress so you have a record of everything you’ve done. It’s really easy to join! Actually you’re almost a member already! You click Longin at the upper right of their homepage and use your Gmail or Facebook userid and password to become a member. It’s that easy!
Please go to Khan Academy and look at all they have to offer. Just “click here” to go there!

A friend of mine owns a Kindle. He wanted to know why some eBooks he downloaded wouldn’t open. The Kindle family of eReaders use AZW or MOBI format, and they’re about the only ones that do (please “click here” to see a comparison chart of the top 10 eReaders). The majority of eReaders use EPUB format. The eBooks my friend downloaded were all in EPUB format and weren’t compatible with his Kindle (just like AZW and MOBI formats aren’t compatible with a most other eReaders, including the Nook).
So what do you do when you see an eBook you want to read, but it’s in the wrong format for your eReader? That’s easy! You convert the eBook’s format to one you can use! You can do that quickly and easily with Calibre!
So what is Calibre? I’ll let them tell you… “Calibre allows you to organize your e-book collection, convert e-books to various formats, and interact with your e-book reader, all in an intuitive and friendly manner.” Please “click here” to visit their website and learn more about what they have to offer! The best thing is Calibre is FREE!
Calibre is a great eReader too! You can read eBooks in all formats, highlight text, and add sticky notes. Check them out! I’ve been using Calibre and I love it!
