Publishers Accused of eBook Price Fixing!

The law firm of Hagens Berman recently filed a nationwide class-action lawsuit against Apple Inc. and five of the nation’s top publishers, including Harper-Collins Publishers, Hachette Book Group, Macmillan Publishers, Penguin Group Inc. and Simon & Schuster Inc.

The lawsuit alleges the group of publishers colluded to raise prices for popular eBooks so as to increase profits and also block Amazon from providing pro-consumer discount pricing. The lawsuit states, “If Amazon defied the publishers and tried to sell e-books below the publisher-set levels, the publishers would simply deny Amazon access to the title…”
